Top Menswear Trends You Need To Master in 2016 Edith ZamoraDecember 19, 20152 viewsFashion0 Comments2 views As we inch closer to the New Year, the temperature has already dropped and the days are getting shorter. The one positive we can take from this time of year? Time to revamp the wardrobe for the worst of the winter! With the post-Christmas sales on the horizon, it’s the perfect time to start thinking about kitting yourself out with some gear that won’t only be in keeping with the latest fashion trends, but that will protect you from the Mother Nature too! We know that you don’t have time to spend hours researching what’s in or out this season so we’ve picked out five of the most important fashion trends for men this winter. Shearling After 2014 saw the fashion world go ‘Mad Men’ crazy with 60s style suits, 2015 has been the year of the 1970’s throwback. Allied with a shift toward a more ‘rough and ready’ style, the shearling jacket is set to be the must own item this winter. A solid sturdy jacket is a must as we head into the wintry months, and so getting a decent one should be your number one priority. In case you don’t know, shearling refers to coats and jackets with a suede or leather surface on the outside and wool on the inside (think Steve McQueen/James Dean). Combining woolly warmth with that 1970’s throwback style, don’t be scared to splash out a little bit extra on one of these beauties! Check? Check. If you’ve found that the recent trends for monochrome and block colours have left your wardrobe looking a bit bland and lifeless, you’ll be glad to know that checked patterns are coming back in a big way. Checked shirts have been in and out more often than the hokey cokey so you’ve probably got something lying around that you can put to good use. From simple checked shirts to fully checked suits, this is a pretty timeless look that can be utilised across almost anything in your wardrobe, but it’ll take a bold man to pull off checked trousers! Military Green There’s been a military inspiration running through men’s fashion for a while now, with buttoned cuffs and epaulettes establishing themselves as standard in a lot of modern wardrobes. However, this winter the military influence will be most strongly seen in colour. Expect to see swathes of green this winter, in all shades across all garments. If you’re looking for something to pair your new khaki bomber with, green goes well with neutral colours such as black and grey, and can also go well with burgundy or navy. Roll With It Roll necks (or turtlenecks) have been steadily creeping back into fashion in keeping with the 70s revival, thanks to their suave look and versatility. The possibilities with this knitwear are endless. You can wear a thin one under a jacket, or go with a bold thick printed one. They also work great under a suit, or even just in a casual setting. We particularly like this offering from ‘The Tailor Retailored’ who produce luxury cashmere knitwear in their traditional Scottish workrooms. Wide Legs Is the age of the skinny jean over? Well no, not quite, but it certainly seems that wider trousers are coming back. While we may start to see wider legs popping up on catwalk models in the coming months, it may be a little harder for the man on the street to pull off! We’d suggest making a steady change and try and strike a balance between those ‘crowded’ skinnies and wider clown trousers, such as these slim tapered ED-80s from Edwin. If you do want to go for a bit more legroom, try and balance it out with a tighter shirt or jumper. Edith Zamora
