Candice Swanepoel x Mother: 90s street style-inspired Lucy PenningtonFebruary 12, 2015482 viewsDesigner CollaborationFashion0 Comments482 views Launching a 90s street style inspired capsule collection is a project close to Candice Swanepoel’s heart. The collection is creative by collaboration between the South African born model and the infamous Los Angeles based denim brand. It is easy to see why Swanepoel chose this collection as it is aimed at benefiting a South African charity called mothers2mothers.The organisation’s main focus is to help to prevent the transmission of HIV from mothers to their babies. The collection is a range of seven fashionable styles which includes high waisted skinnies and cut-off shorts. Available in four different washes it would definitely catch the eye of any self-proclaimed street style icon. Pioneered by Mother co-founders Lela Becker and Tim Kaeding, the project was distinct mixture of style, vision and determination. Swanepoel worked with Kaeding on each design detail, from the fit to the hardware, to logos and hangtags. “Collaborating with Candice was such a pleasure. Everything we worked on together was distinctive and unique to her style. She had a very clear vision of what she wanted – it made it really easy to create a capsule collection of model-off-duty street styles that are not only easy to wear, but of course also very sexy!” said designer Tim Kaeding. Mothers2mothers trains employs and empowers mothers living with HIV since 2001 and since reached more than 1.2 million HIV-positive mothers and their babies in nine countries in sub-Saharan Africa.
