Exhibition: One Day Young – Boxpark Imogen McGillFebruary 19, 20152 viewsexhibitionlifestylePhotography0 Comments2 views Photographer Jenny Lewis has devoted the last five years to photographing Hackney mothers and their newborn babies within 24 hours of their birth. Her aim was to pass on a powerful message that childbirth is a positive experience and nothing to be feared. The project has now been brought together in a new book, One Day Young, which is the latest addition to Hoxton Mini Press’s East London Photo Stories Series. A selection of these captivating images will feature in an upcoming exhibition opening on Thursday 5th March at Boxpark. “My aim was to capture the extraordinary bonding, warmth and strength between mother and infant. In fact the whole range of amazing emotions felt at that time, as the mothering instinct kicks in.” says Jenny Lewis. “I find the collection of images defiant and beautiful, challenging the expected vision of those first twenty-four hours, a pure celebration of what it means to be a mother.” Boxpark’s gallery space spans across the upstairs outside corridors, featuring each incredible artist in a month long exhibition, free and open for the public to enjoy. The exhibition launches on Thursday 5th March from 6pm Imogen McGill “One Day Young” exhibition, @BOXPARK, 2-4 Bethnal Green Road, E1 6GY.
