The renowned sportswear brand has announced it will be collaborating with London Fashion Week designer Mary Katrantzou. This proposed long-term relationship, comprising both clothing and footwear, will launch in November.

The Greek-born, east London-based designer, who has made hyper-colour and digital kaleidoscopic patterns her signature, will design a capsule collection for autumn 2014. She is following in the footsteps of Topshop, Pharrell Williams, Raf Simons and Stella McCartney by joining forces with Adidas.

A strong celebrity following, including Anne Hathaway, Lily Collins and Lupita Nyong’o, have worn Katrantzou’s creations on the red carpet but the four-figure price tags her designs command have put them out of reach for many. While prices for the new collection are yet to be released, they will no doubt be on the more affordable end of the scale.

‘I’m really excited to be working with adidas on a line of apparel and footwear,’ stated Katrantzou. ‘I grew up, like so many other kids around the world, wearing adidas sneakers and I’m really excited about bringing my vision to such a global brand. They have a fantastic heritage and their ability to innovate in sportswear makes them the perfect partner for us to work with in this market.’

Global creative director of adidas’ sport style division, Dirk Schoenberger, said: ‘I admire Mary’s extraordinary sense of printing techniques, colours and silhouette that will bring another amazing new aesthetic to the adidas originals women’s collection.’
