For Christian Wijnants’ first S/S’15 pre-collection, Christian Wijnants gathered inspiration from the nomadic lifestyle of sea gypsies who live amongst the Moken and Baju tribes.

It’s an exotic collection reflecting a harmonious blend between humans and the sea. This relationship is consistently shown in Wijnants’ dresses, that are made of torn silk that is knitted back together to make an aqua-like texture.

This reconstructive approach was also use to create cardigans, camisole and a stretch miniskirt – all in hues of seaside colours. Going along with the marine theme, there are other casual pieces such as a pleated skirts, denim jackets and Bermuda shorts – all showcasing Wijnants knitting talent that blurs the line between knitwear and woven.

He is the winner of the 2013 International Woolmark prize, and his ingenious knitwear forte is on display at the forefront of this collection. Delicately constructed, its fineness shows in the final pieces which are as breezy as the sea itself.
