Kelly Simpkin’s collection for spring/summer 2016 highlights the designer’s sensibility and signature modern luxury aesthetic. Featuring laser cut leather, silks and tulle, the collection is undeniably glamorous and memorable. While trends may be transient, some designs are timeless. The pieces in Kelly Simpkin’s collection for S/S’16 mark a turning point in her journey as a designer. Feminine, sculptural, with an edge that only a London designer can truly manage, Simpkin uses a skilled eye and paradox of leather and lace to create romance in this key capsule collection.

Kelly Simpkin - The Clothes Maiden

From a Mongolian Fur Circle Jacket over a lace slip reminiscent of a 1930’s siren, the collection is old school glamour with a modern twist. This is jazz age cocktails meeting Bladerunner. The show stopping piece in the collection is an extraordinary silk lined, leather Bridal Gown, with an extravagant and billowing tulle like an explosion of blossom falling at the bride’s feet. A flirty Plunge Short dress takes lace and tulle and reinvents them as a playful, quirky piece and the Scallop Bustier Gown features a gold leather bustier with a black organza skirt, matching old school glamour with a tougher vibe.

Kelly Simpkin SS16 Collection - The Clothes Maiden

A classic Tie Neck Lace Gown delivers in a bright/canary/acid yellow, taking a classic cut and fabric and breathing new life, personality and colour into this classic piece. The classic silhouette contradicts the challenging colour. The Mesh Circle Coat acts as armour, edgy, exciting, somewhat formidable while being infinitely wearable. Wardrobe must-haves are the Mesh Cross Over dress in black leather with lace trim and the staple Lace Bodysuit which works with, and elevates any outfit. All fabrics are sourced from British suppliers, and all garments show Kelly’s eye for detail. The Mongolian Circle Jacket is lined with pink duchess satin and gold leather facing. With all of Kelly’s pieces, it’s the added detail that makes them truly unique.
