Après Ski Presents the Variations Collection Avery ParkerFebruary 19, 20160 viewsFashion0 Comments0 views Variations, is Après Ski’s latest collection, marked by the evolution of colour, the main characteristics that have been evolving during the brand’s history. As the name says, Variations is all about that, about the alternatives caused using the same materials and techniques. The colour palette in this fifth collection, has been developed through the inspiration of colour in Moroccan homes and rugs. The designer, Lucía Vergara says, “What surprised me the most from my visit to Morocco was the freedom in the use of colours not only in rugs but also in home decoration, they inspired me to use vibrant colours and to try out bold shades”. Those strong tones come from natural dyes, for example red comes from poppy flowers, or orange and yellow come from saffron. Lucía also emphasises in what she felt when she saw the wide spectrum of blue in Chefchaouen. The city was painted like that because of the influence of Jewish refugees that arrived in the 1930s and wanted to resemble the blue tone of the sky on their houses. A touch of folklore has always been prevalent in Après Ski, along side the emphasis in geometric shapes, this comes from Lucía’s tireless will of learning and discovering new places, techniques, disciplines, styles and artistic trends. In this occasion her creations are influenced by the compositions and Indian motifs like ornaments and repetitive shapes in fabrics like patchwork. The designer’s continuos curiosity has led her to learning pottery, which has influenced the textures of Variations in the use of decorative techniques like spongeware. At the same time, her necklaces are inspired by the artworks by Josef and Anni Albers as well as by the colour contrasts of Kazimir Malevich and Constructivism.
