Sydney-Davies S/S’14 Stephanie AndersonFebruary 25, 20143 viewsdesignFashionStyle0 Comments3 views Sydney-Davies is an edgy, innovative fashion label for men and women. Established in 2012 by Heriot Watt graduate Euphemia-ann Sydney-Davies, the brand offers luxurious, vivacious style incorporating a clever mix of couture and street. With firm belief in originality, this brand strives to set its own style rather than following fast fashion trends. A three-month internship with Alexander McQueen significantly helped Euphemia develop her skillset prior to launching her own business. As an assistant pattern cutter, she was able to perfect her ability in draping, pattern cutting and tailoring – expertise thus reflected in her own designs. Now she is in partnership with artist Gabor Zolyomi, Sydney-Davies’ distinctive prints are increasing in appeal and exclusivity. The brand promotes individuality and ease of wear through its unique designs; is intended for fashion-forward individuals seeking to distinguish themselves from the norm. SD’s spring/summer 2014 collection, LICLILLV (light is colour, light is life, let’s live), brings forth audacious, print-driven pieces fitting for this season. Menswear features clean-cut shirts with fascinating symmetrical prints, lightweight jackets and complementing slouchy trousers. Fabrics are printed in earthy tones with contrasting rich orange and electric blue to create vivid, inimitable pieces. Womenswear assimilates similar colour combinations with added bursts of fuchsia, found on cropped tops, flattering high-waisted trousers and dresses emphasising sheer panels. A co-ordinating shirt, shorts and jacket combination has been produced with tropical illustrations, making this outfit ideal for the au courant woman. Creative panelling can be seen throughout, utilising an eclectic mix of block colour and intriguing pattern – a signature element of SD. The ‘Leggo’ shirt is bound to be a wardrobe essential for males who favour a quirky take on a classic aesthetic. The regular front button stand and additional concealed back button equivalent permit these sleek shirts to be de-constructed and interchanged, allowing the wearer to mix and match prints as they please. The ability to customise this everyday garment provides a new outlook on a traditional item of clothing – without doubt intended for trendsetters, not followers. Refuse to conform and look courageously cool this summer. Rebekah Absalom For further information on Sydney-Davies visit here.
