Aacute is a young, creative company founded by Melbournian sisters Julie and Kelly and based in the heart of Footscray, Australia. This charming but contemporary brand specialises in innovative handmade jewellery and scented candles. They ‘make stuff’ following a concept of design that incorporates both beauty and sustainability. The Melbourne community are imperative to Aacute’s success as it continues to win the hearts of locals with stalls at local craft markets. The sisters stand by their proven philosophy: quality over quantity.

 

The geometric jewellery is minimal yet striking, with each bead cleanly formed through several hand-cut edges. Each component is crafted using materials such as cut polymer clay, reclaimed weathered leather and granular wood. New pieces for S/S’14 showcase exciting colour combinations of fuchsia, mauve, lemon and mint applied to earrings, necklaces and bracelets. Wonderful assortments of block colour, gold leaf and mixed-shade swirls adorn the beautifully simple shapes to create items that are as individual as they are complimentary.  

 

A signature necklace, ‘The Klassic Kelly’, consists of five angular stones cut from polymer clay and strung on a sturdy stainless steel chain. A gold-flecked turquoise stone placed fourth in an otherwise monotone line-up provides a fresh contrast and one that differs from mainstream jewellery design. This stand-out item can effortlessly transform even a stark, white shirt into an outfit that exudes modernity and class. 

 

Prefer a stronger statement? The collection includes items to represent many different colour spectrums, from monos and calming hues through to bright bursts of mouth-watering shades. There’s a combination to suit every mood and season! Onto Aacute’s other specialty: candles. These environmentally-friendly delights have been lovingly crafted using hypoallergenic, clean-burning organic soy and selected wood wicks making them better for us as well as the planet. The hand-poured jars of aromatic bliss are available in a vast array of scents under the following categories: Food, Fruity, Earthy, Floral, Exotic and Misc. You’ll definitely be spoilt for choice!
