Opening the Shutters: An exhibition of contemporary photography at Ely House

This unique contemporary photography exhibition is being displayed from the 27^th of November to 21^st of December at the magnificent Ely House, London. Just by entering Ely House you sense a feeling of being back to the 18^th century. The classical townhouse, which was built in 1772 as a London palace for the Bishop of Ely, it’s indeed a place rich of history and importance.

The historical building located in Dover Street, is currently home to Mallett’s works and the exhibition Opening the Shutters being a part of that. The exhibition is a result of two strong and creative minds with a vision, Jules Wright, known for commissioning daring modern art, and Mallett, one of Britain’s oldest antique dealers, who have joined forces to exhibit work by a selection of photographers.

The selection of photographers includes work from Mitra Tabrizian, Paolo Roversi, Elina Brotherus, Thomas Zanon-Larcher, Peter Marlow, Edgar Martins and Jacqueline Hassink, all represented by The Wapping Project Bankside. Jules Wright, the founder of The Wapping Project Bankside points out that aim with this bold approach of juxtaposing the very best international contemporary photographers and the finest 18th century furniture in one of the most beautiful domestic buildings in London, is to intend to capture how people live now.

After attending the exhibition yesterday, we’re certain to say that they have well succeeded to accomplish their aim. The exhibition is one of a kind and with the exceptional interiors, the finest antique furniture, the crystal chandeliers, all combined, they make the photographs stand out – a must see exhibition.
