Interview: CAROLINE ANDRIEU Stephanie AndersonJuly 1, 201341 viewsArtinterview0 Comments41 views Today we’d like to introduce Caroline Andrieu‘s artwork to you. She has illustrated the Fashion Insiders Guides of Paris for Abram’s Edition in New York, but most of all, she continues to draw the people around her, an almost daily practice. At the beginning of the year we were lucky enough to interview the artist. After her graduation in Graphic Design from the Ateliers de Sèvres (Paris) and EPSAA, Caroline Andrieu has been the art director of Condé Nast Digital France, for Vogue and GQ websites during five years. In 2011, she joined GQ print magazine graphic studio and was promoted head of the iPad version. Please tell us a bit about yourself? I am a french illustrator and graphic designer from Paris. I live in Montmartre with my boyfriend and we have two cats. I studied arts and graphic design for four years and started to work for Condé Nast in 2006 as the art director of Vogue & GQ websites. About a year ago I switched to work at GQ print version of the magazine. I am also a freelance illustrator, I draw mostly fashion. I use colour pencils and ink, and love to draw portraits. What inspires you to draw? Everything around me, faces, attitude, patterns, movies, haircuts and colours… Do you have a favourite piece of artwork? No, actually when I am finished with an illustration I can’t look at it for too long before I see flaws. That’s why I try to draw a lot so the favorite piece is maybe the next one. What does a typical day look like for you? Well, I work at the magazine all week so the day job is at the office, and the illustration job starts when I come back home, and the weekend. What do you love most about being an illustrator? Freedom; doing what I love, sharing with people what I like through drawings. And what are the most difficult things about being an illustrator? Working at home alone (maybe that’s why I also enjoy working with a team at the magazine), finding and keeping your own style. What do you do when you’re not using your creative talent? Riding my biclycle and seeing as many movies as I can Do you have any exciting projects in the pipeline? Yes, I have illustrated the Fashion Insiders Guides for Abram’s Edition in New York, that got published in April. So there are a lot of my drawings in it, and most of all tips and favorite places to hang out shared by fashion insiders.
