DANIELA CARDILLO Stephanie AndersonMay 29, 20127 viewsFashionJewellery1 Comment7 views Today is good. Dublin based designer, Daniela Cardillo started following The Clothes Maiden on twitter, how happy was I huh?? I didn’t have to look far for my next blog post – there it was right in front of me! A perfect label, happy days. Daniela’s work is concerned with finding beauty in and making use of death and discard, this designer is intrigued by the components that make up a creature. Taxidermy, hunting trophies and the concept of the animal as a status and power symbol, are topics also at the root of her work. Each piece is entirely handcrafted using horsehair and rodent bones, guys – this actually isn’t creepy at all, look below! The hair weaving technique stems from historic Victorian mourning jewellery. The bones are electro-formed and then gold plated encasing individual relics of past lives. If bones, skulls, claws and hair are considered memnto-mori, the pieces are not a simple reminder of death, but an alteration of it, vitalising past life fragments. Shop is coming soon, oh god I cannot wait, OH GOD. Hide my credit cards! I want Daniela to become my new best friend, can someone make this happen??!? For real.
