Album Review: Lauren Waller – ‘No Names Here’ Tilly McCarthyAugust 21, 201733 viewsMusic0 Comments33 views Singer/Songwriter Lauren Waller has dropped her second EP, mysteriously titled No Names Here. “People in my circle kept asking who the songs were about, but it doesn’t matter who they are about. I wanted the songs to speak for themselves so people can project their own perceptions on them,” she says. The EP is filled with songs that anyone who has experienced love, loss, and lust can relate to, while still allowing Lauren to express her personal feelings and experiences. The EP bursts out with the first track, Secret Garden. It’s a sultry anthem, and will instantly pull you in. Lauren’s voice enchants you as the track continues. It tells the story of a crush turning into lust, a very mature track. The second song, What If, is a ballad to the one that got away. It asks all the questions that every girl has for the person they regret letting go. It’s the perfect song for someone who left a relationship without getting closure. Maybe speaks to me as the story of the rebound after a breakup. It tells the sad story of two people who are using each other to heal their wounds. There’s a little hope that the relationship could turn into something more, but still comes to the conclusion that it’s just a rebound. Next up is a remake of Black’s Wonderful Life, which was originally released in 1985. Lauren’s raspy voice matches well with the pop beat. The revamped version of the song is refreshing. Concluding the EP is Down, which has a funky futuristic beat. The track shows the struggles of life and how difficult it can be to overcome those struggles. No Names Here is a very mature, confident move from the once timid Lauren Waller. It’s refreshing to see her creating a new sound for herself. “When I was younger, putting out my thoughts in the world would be really scary,” she affirms. “But I know who I am now. I feel like a different person, and I’m ready to be vulnerable and share my music.” Lauren plans to return to performing on stage following the EP.
