aMuse S/S’14: A perfect day at the seaside Stephanie AndersonJanuary 27, 20140 viewsdesignHandmadeJewelleryStyle0 Comments0 views If you like fun and colourful jewellery then look no further, aMuse is your next go-to destination. Born with the notion of making jewellery as an art form and sculpture you can interact with, aMuse is about creating unique jewellery though a use of modern materials. aMuse’s S/S’14 collection A Perfect Day… at the Seaside has a nostalgic ‘British Holiday’ feel. Paper Sail Boats, Ice Lollies and the good old British Fish and Chips feature in this capsule collection by designer Sarah Nettleton. Echoing the playful nautical shapes and deep aquatic blues seen at the S/S’14 shows of Julien David, Olympia Le-Tan and Kenzo, you can grab an aMuse piece to emulate the catwalk style at a more affordable price. Taking inspiration from where Sarah grew up in New England, USA; she speaks of her upbringing as her main resource when designing her collections. Summers in Maine, skiing in Winter, parties on the beach, country clubs and boat races are all referenced when creating a new collection. Since moving to London, the visual references seen each day also add an extra twist to her designs. Sarah loves playing with effects and peoples expectations to create her individual style for her brand. With the quirky, fun and individual brand focus in mind she believes that Paloma Faith, Eliza Doolittle and Dawn O’Porter are the perfect ambassadors for the brand. aMuse is the brain child of Sarah Nettleton, born in Connecticut and raised in New England. Sarah studied in the USA completing her undergraduate degree in Art History and Chemistry. She moved to London to complete a graduate degree in Art Conservation, where she then moved on to work in museums, private studios and libraries. With a keen interest in art, she has worked with a variety of mediums from painting to larger scale sculpture but jewellery was always at the back of her mind. After completing her masters, Sarah began to start the process of making her hobby into a business. With the help of her friends, tutors and family she dived in head first into the development of aMuse. Decoration is key in her pieces, with metal leaf and magazine cuttings feature heavily in aMuse’s designs. Sarah intends to develop her designs by exploring trompe l’oeil, playing with visual illusions and effects to challenge peoples expectations – quirky and fun will always be aMuse’s focal point!
