Independent, East London based knitwear designer, Amy Hall presents her new A/W’14 collection, bringing the label into its eighth season. Influenced by the power of determined femininity, the A/W’14 ready to wear collection is named after heroines of their era with handcrafted pieces, made from natural, luxury fibres.

Continuing her signature style of handmade knitwear with crochet detailing, the Amy Hall A/W’14 season features truly wearable classics with a twist on the everyday. She’s worked with Donegal wool, a traditional and natural Irish yarn with a touch of soft mohair, as well as alpaca and silk mohair fibres, which have been selected for their extreme warmth and luxurious feel. For this collection, Amy Hall has also used a bespoke hand spun yarn made in Dalston, using a blend of merino wools and a highly sustainable soya bean fibre on the ‘Boudicca’ cardigan, a first for the designer.

All the pieces are named after strong women throughout history. An overall moody palette of ink black and navy hues is lifted with fresh pale grey and mauve tones, inspired from the feelings evoked by the approach of winter, the darkness and cold, with conflicting elements of warmth and light.
The ‘Boudicca’ cardigan is a hero piece of the A/W’14 collection and took over twenty hours to make by hand. It features a statement scarf panel, which has been knitted using locally sourced and sustainable soya bean fibre.

Made from individually knitted mohair and wool panels crocheted together using a number of patterns the ‘Catherine’ skirt and  ‘Suu’ sweater are among the garments that beautifully showcase the high level of skill prevalent throughout the A/W’14 collection. The ‘Joan’ dress named after military leader and folk heroine, Joan of Arc, has also been made in this manner, with the name taking inspiration from the armour-like paneling of the dress.

Some of Amy Hall’s most iconic pieces have also been reinterpreted in the theme of the A/W’14 collection, including her popular soft mohair t-shirts, ‘Eleanor’ in classic black, with long-sleeves for extra warmth and ‘Theresa’ in a softer navy shade with batwing sleeves, which make it the perfect layering piece.  ‘Victoria’ is a twist on Amy Hall’s signature cocoon cardigan design, crafted from a super soft and luxurious blend of Donegal Irish wool and mohair, with alpaca and silk accents for a superbly tactile finish.

For Amy Hall’s latest collection, craftsmanship is key, without any compromise being made on the style of the pieces. Amy Hall’s A/W’14 collection is a combination of effortlessly stylish, luxe staples for your wardrobe.
