Artist spotlight: 3D sculptures made of suspended sewing buttons by Augusto Esquivel Imogen McGillJanuary 16, 20157 viewsArtdesignInspiration0 Comments7 views Miami-based artist Augusto Esquivel creates something absolutely amazing from something seemingly insignificant and small: he builds fascinating 3D sculptures out of thousands of tiny buttons. Augusto carefully attaches them to a fishing line and builds objects such as balloons, toilets and musical instruments! The artist is intrigued by the idea of how “a common object used to create a piece of art becomes transformed into something complicated and intriguing.” Augusto is often obsessed with comparisons of reality and potential and the balance between them, in art: the idea of chaos in perfect order; an object seemingly solid to the eye can also be fragile and inconsistent to touch. The artist realises how insignificant and small a simple sewing button can be as it lays in his grandmother’s sewing box, but at the same time how unique and precious it can become as part of a work of art.
