A/W’15 Edit: Texture Clash Sophie PrescottSeptember 15, 201510 viewsFashion0 Comments10 views Leather, velvet, satin, denim, lurex, boucle, sequins; the runways were awash with a range of textures for autumn/winter 2015, but this year designers weren’t afraid to layer and clash their materials for a complete sensory experience. Although you may not be brave enough to pull off some of the looks for everyday wear, here are some ways you can clash textures for a wearable, daytime look – courtesy of the high street. Topshop Jacket, £45 // Top, £8 // Jeans, £42 // Ring, £7.50 // Bag, £28 // Boots, £75 We’ve taken a leaf out of Sonia Rykiel’s book with this outfit from Topshop. We took a wearable velvet piece (these super-soft skinnies) and teamed it with this lurex striped crop top – that could have come straight off the runway show itself. Leather boots and a khaki sleeveless jacket toughen up the look, for a utility edge. Next Earrings, £8 // Bag, £20 // Top, £26 // Jeans, £20 // Coat, £45 // Shoes, £34 Embellished details were seen all over AW15 from luxe accessories at D&G to Ermanno Scervino’s theatrical designs, but here’s how you can channel this trend in a daytime look. This outfit could take you from the office to cocktails with a few key twists; take a classic camel longline blazer for workwear then add a pair of on-trend lace up heels before you hit the town – et voila! Mango Coat, £59.99 // Scarf, £6.99 // Dress, £49.99 // Earrings, £14.99 // Bag, £34.99 // Shoes, £39.99 This look from Mango uses winter wools and boucle materials, while taking inspiration from Chanel and Gucci with a quirky new take on geek chic. Don’t be afraid to accessorise with different contrasting textures, with a pair of suede shoes, a satin skinny scarf and some more jewels and have some fun with clashing and layering! Warehouse Earrings, £8 // Bag, £35 // Boots, £65 // Jumper, £28 // Skirt, £38 // Cape, £30 // Hat, £25 Don’t limit yourself to leather accessories, and incorporate it elsewhere in your outfit, á la Coach, Fendi and Rodarte. Warehouse has some great items for winter layering, with this gorgeous cape and hat in a neutral palette inspired by Ralph Lauren. Again, we have mixed up harder materials alongside soft suede and woollen pieces. A texture clash sensation. Zara Top, £9.99 // Jeans, £29.99 // Sunglasses, £15.99 // Gilet, £39.99 // Shoes, £49.99 Finally, not forgetting the texture of the season: fur. This faux fur gilet from Zara is great for layering as we approach winter, and would not look out of place with some 70s styling. We’ve teamed the piece with some suede platform sandals and, of course, a pair of flared jeans in a suitable homage to the decade. Sophie Prescott
