Boutique Spotlight: The Wonders of Vintage Emma EdwardsFebruary 25, 201525 viewsFashion0 Comments25 views The rise of online clothing boutiques has been somewhat of a phenomenon over recent years, and has hugely widened the market for internet shoppers to source items from across the globe. The world of shopping is much smaller than it once was, and we recently came across a humbling success story of two young men who have developed and diversified a keen eye for vintage clothing into a popular online boutique. We caught up with founders of The Wonders of Vintage, Tom and Scott, to find out a bit more about them and their company. What lead you to creating The Wonders of Vintage? We have always loved the vintage style, from classic cars and clothing to furniture. Our first sale was a denim Sherpa jacket to a guy in Australia, and from then we knew something was going to change. Where do you source your products from? 90% of our pieces are handpicked. We feel you have to be passionate about what you are selling online, and planning is key. Europe and the USA are our biggest suppliers, and we are always trying to think ahead to what upcoming trends will be. We don’t follow the high street. When buying stock, we have to think commercially and work out our margins, though some stuff ends up being too good to sell and winds up in our own wardrobes. How have you developed an eye for what’s treasure and what’s trash? 80% of our own wardrobes are vintage, and its great to receive compliments on a unique, one-off item you own rather than something from a high street retailer. The quality of vintage items are much higher too, as they have been around for years. It takes time to work out what’s trash and what’s treasure, but it pays off in the long run. Which items are most popular for The Wonders of Vintage? We have a passion for vintage shirts, So a lot of our stock revolves round them, We started Sourcing high end brands from the USA at the beginning of last year, Sought after brands like Ralph Lauren, Tommy Hilfiger, LL BEAN,Woolrich, Levis and Adidas are just a few of the designers labels we source. We feel like a lot of our customers tend to buy into branding from the 1990’s as they are much more long lasting, good quality clothing that would cost a lot more money if available on the high street today. What are the future plans for The Wonders of Vintage? We are now one of the leading menswear boutiques on ASOS Marketplace after being approached in 2013. We are looking to branch into vintage womenswear, with the same feel as our menswear range but a little edgier. We are also doing a tour of the US and Canada to source products that you won’t find in the UK. Tom and Scott have worked so hard to drive their flair for vintage clothing into a successful online boutique, and we couldn’t be happier for them, and we cannot wait for the womenswear to develop too!
