Designer Spotlight: Ek Thongprasert Megan SharpMay 13, 201514 viewsFashion0 Comments14 views When was the last time you really got excited by a jewellery collection? Well that’s how Ek Thongprasert’s new line should be seen; as a burst of excitement not to be hidden away in a jewellery box but celebrated for day to day use. Always one to experiment with his designs, Ek Thongprasert’s new collection is a journey through past styles; revisiting a forgotten time of glamour and revamping it with a change of materials and a pop of colour. From bursting brights to intricate designs, this new collection is designed for women to transform themselves and create a statement. This seasons collection has been split into three lines, inspired by three specific types of women: Ikebana, Origami and Ethnic. Using innovative materials he experiments with how the jewellery should be worn and challenges your perception of classic style; injecting some colour and playful features while staying true to the original form and shape. A new line of silicone shoulder bags where also created to match the jewellery and embellished in a similar fashion. The Ikebana line was designed for the ‘tender touch’, a lady who has grown up in a traditional world but is breaking free and expressing herself through bravery and courage. Taking its inspiration from the Japanese art of flower arrangement, this range uses silicone flowers in bright colours to create a bold statement. Other materials include Swarovski crystal and hand panted enamel ribbons. The Origami line was designed for the working women, the ‘modern maiden’. This line uses pearls and crystals but folds them in unusual ways, taking away the elegant curve of the neckline and replacing it with a straight edge, resulting in a new, fashion-forward look. The Ethnic range was designed for the ‘unique women’ who is ready to experience the world. Taking inspiration from traditional Indian jewellery, it is a bold range using beads, amulets and coins all made out of silicone. Each piece has volume and is a statement suitable for today’s fashion tribe. To accompany the jewellery and shoulder bags Thongprasert has expanded his collection to include a ready-to-wear line. Each following a similar design ethic and embellished with silicone parts. The floral line was designed for the classic and feminine silhouette hand embroidered with silicone flowers and Swarovski crystals while a hardware line was also designed for a more simple and modern silhouette, embellished in plated metal parts and silicone knots and bolts. Megan Sharp From jewellery to ready-to-wear, the entire collection is something to really get excited for and offers something to suit all women from the tender touch to the unique.
