Heta Vajavaara: 100 Things Edith ZamoraOctober 22, 20144 viewsDesigner spotlightFashion0 Comments4 views Heta Vajavaara is a fashion and textile designer based in Helsinki. In her collection 100THINGS she circles around the subject of ownership and especially the different ways people relate to their possessions. The collection consists of minimalistic ascetic meets a chaotic collector. 100 tavaraa is based on research on how people relate to their possessions and plays with the juxtaposition of the two characters. The collection evolves from ascetic Stoicism, square cuts, cut-outs and heavy felt to playful, silly trumpet hems, pastel colour cacophony and marbled and polyurethane coated fabrics. The collection is an evolution from one extreme to another. They especially like how the shapes, colours and materials of the collection evolve from the earnest ascetic to the frivolous collector. Because the ascetics avoid anything unnecessary, all the adornments in the felt clothes are done with cut-outs and slits. The collection studies also marbling as a dyeing technique and coating fabric with polyurethane paste. These techniques are chosen to embellish the collector’s colourful, giddy and changing persona. Swirling, restless patterns of the marbled fabrics and the collage-like, rubbery polyurethane coated fabric are far away from the smooth, tranquil and natural feel of the ascetic’s felt.
