Designer spotlight: Leyla Cemal Evie SwitzerJanuary 28, 20156 viewsDesigner spotlightFashionInspirationJewelleryLookBook0 Comments6 views Leyla Cemal created her self branded jewellery line in late 2012 with the notion of creating jewellery that was sculptural, modern and highly wearable. Leyla’s passion for jewellery design began at the age of 6 when she enjoyed stringing together beads to make bracelets and necklaces to accessorise her outfits. As an adult Leyla entered the fashion industry working in office based roles for five years. Feeling the need for a creative outlet, Leyla took a course in metalsmithing and became hooked on the process of making jewellery by hand. Drawing inspiration from geometry books, her keen interest in astrology, and her East London life Leyla has created a collection of jewellery that strikes a balance between the feminine and tough. Incorporating both delicate and statement pieces, Leyla creates jewellery with an identifiable style for the modern woman. Leyla is proud to say that she is not simply a designer, but also a metal smith and wax carver as well. She takes part in the evolution of every piece from designing to the physical process of wax carving, soldering and finishing. The satisfaction that comes from getting your hands dirty or the twinge of soreness at the end of a long day hunched over the jewellery bench has become irreplaceable.
