I am that girl that wears an invisible forehead sticker bearing the phrase ‘beauty is pain’. I receive compliments constantly for my ‘chic’ and trend-led ensembles, but underneath those lavish layers is a bruised, blistered and aching body crying out for a onesie and some fluffy bed socks. Yes, ok, it may seem a little eccentric, but we all get our thrills from our individual sources do we not? Mine happens to be painfully beautiful fashion.

Don’t get me wrong, there are days where I can slip my feet into a pair of Nikes and call it urban street style, but I just have this eternally burning infatuation with sky scraping heels and shift dresses that involve the partnership of some extremely tight spandex. Perhaps it’s the pressure of working in an industry that furthers my obsession with aesthetics, but I’m slowly learning that sometimes practicality should triumph over appearance. I’m sure I’m not the only woman out there who changes the colour of her nails daily to fit in with my clothing colour scheme, and I’m sure I’m not the only person who alternates their bags and accessories to coincide with the overall look either – no matter the annoyance.

One thing I’ve never truly been able to comprehend, though, is having just one handbag, or one set of earrings, or wearing just one watch. Most of my friends and family members wear watches that were passed down to them as heirlooms, or watches that are engraved in remembrance of special birthdays, or they just own one standard looking watch that they have to force to match everything. I’m afraid my vision is not so simple. I have at least seven different wrist watches – one for every day of the week – and the collection is rapidly growing after my discovery of Lord Timepieces.

Lord Timepieces is an affordable online boutique that sells unique women’s watches. When I say affordable I mean, under £100 and they look anything but. In stunning shades of rose gold, gold and silver, these lovely timepieces are sleek, modern and fashionable enough to be able to style with any day to day get up, yet still be iconic enough to wear through to the evening. Of course, just having one or two wouldn’t be enough for me and my ‘can’t wear anything two days in a row’ antics, so I ordered three of their gorgeous designs last week! I chose the Classic Pink wrist watch, which is encircled in rose gold with a large white face and a dusky pink leather strap. Pink is a staple colour this Autumn/Winter and half my wardrobe consists of creams and blushes which will tie in perfectly. Rose gold is still the metal of the year and can be worn with other copper coloured accessories for a warm, glowing look. Most of Lord Timepieces designs are simple and elegant, perfect for the minimalist. This silver metal banded watch stood out to me due to its slightly androgynous design. I love indulging in a bit of menswear – women can really pull off oversized shirts and cigarette trousers, so this design is the ideal companion to go alongside my chunky silver chain bracelet and longline blazers.

As a bit of a style chameleon, it was inevitable that I would always go for at least one unexpected purchase. My style is generally quite simple and based on structured silhouettes rather than loud prints or patterns. However, I think it’s always important to reach slightly out of your comfort zone and experiment with colours and styles that you wouldn’t usually go for. I picked the Victoria White watch as a nod to the vintage loving hipster within me.

My style growing up consisted solely of baggy sweats, retro repurposed blouses and Levi denim jackets – so there’s always a playful part of me that still wants to emulate that look. This watch reminded of those care-free days, struck a chord and BOOM! – it was in my basket. I have to say I was pretty torn between Lord Timepieces luxury women’s watches – but now my collection can continue to expand, giving me more option for my matching obsession! Who cares if I have over ten choices, I guess it’s just the same as a beautician wanting a dozen different shades of red lipstick, right?
