Fashion Myths Debunked Avery ParkerJune 3, 202171 viewsFashion0 Comments71 views Fashion trends come and go. Despite the ever-changing rules in fashion, there are still some that are constant. You must have heard a fashion myth or two from your mum, your grandmother, or a complete stranger. It’s time to break out from these fashion myths. Below are some outdated fashion myths that you need to debunk: Don’t Wear Heels if You’re Tall If you’re taller than most of the girls, you may have been told not to wear such high heels. We live in a society where individual needs to stand out. If you love heels, don’t be afraid to wear them, even if you end up being taller than everyone else. Your height is one of your greatest assets that you should be proud of, and there’s no better way of highlighting it than wearing heels. Don’t Wear a Maxi Dress if You’re Short Many people believe that maxi dresses aren’t meant for shorter girls, as this would make them look even shorter. You should never let your height or size dictate you what you should or should not wear. If you want to wear a maxi dress to feel good about yourself, you should wear one. You might even consider wearing single, bold colours in a lightweight fabric to compliment your body type. Only Wear Dark Pants if You’re Bottom Heavy While it’s understandable that dark colours can make you look slimmer, let’s not forget that cuts also play an important role in your outfit. Make sure that your skirts or pants are well-fitted and the cut complements your figure, even if it’s a lighter colour. There’s no need to stash your closet with all-black outfits. Have your share of white and lighter colour pants and skirts that fit you well and compliment your body figure. Match Your Outfit with Your Bags, Shoes and Accessories An outfit that matches perfectly is a thing of the past. Gone are the days where you had to pair your blue dress with a blue bag, blue shoes, and blue accessories. The latest trend nowadays is on mixing and matching your outfits. Darker top paired with a lighter bottom, a loose t-shirt paired with skinny jeans. It looks effortless, yet stylish and chic–a perfect go-to outfit for any occasion. Dressy Clutches are Only Meant for Night It’s true, most of us save our embellished or sequined bags for parties and date nights. Don’t be afraid to use on of your cutest bags during the daytime, it can give your outfit and mood the boost it needs. Not feeling like yourself, or having an off day? Pair a plain t-shirt and jeans with a fancy little clutch bag–it will really make you stand out. It is something very simple and easy, but it could take any outfit to the next level. Don’t Wear More than One Bright Colour Fashion trends nowadays are becoming more bold and fierce. Fashion designers are breaking out of the norm and creating pieces that stand out–some may even be a bit too much for certain people. Don’t be afraid of wearing more than one bright colour. By all means, pair your yellow top with a light blue skirt. As long as the colours compliment each other, you’re good to go. Don’t Pair Denim with Denim Another fashion revolution that got popular in the past few years is denim on denim. Fashion trendsetters, as well as ordinary people, are seen wearing a denim on denim ensembles. This style is cool and casual, especially if it’s paired with a classic pair of shoes–like Vans, adidas, or Converse. There is one thing to consider if you’re worried about going for the denim on denim look, try wearing denims on different hues. If your top is lighter, wear a darker denim pants. You are Only One Size You could be generally a small in size, however, this is a usually just a rough reference. Retail stores have different sizes and measurements. You could be a size 2 but when you go to another shop, you could fit in size 6–sizes tend to be inconsistent. Don’t stress too much about your size. Sometimes, we’re too focused on our size and appearance, when we should just focus on looking good in our clothes–no matter what size. You should be comfortable in your own skin regardless of what size you are in. You’re Not Allowed to Wear Dresses After a Certain Age There’s no reason to stop wearing short, or flattering dresses when you’ve reached a certain age. You can still see a lot of aged celebrities wearing gorgeous short dresses at the red carpet. Stick with pieces that are fashionable and classy. Wear What Makes You Feel Good No matter what, you don’t have to follow every single rule of fashion. As long as you’re comfortable on that trend, no one should stop you from patronizing it. You want to look and feel your absolute best, so don’t hold yourself back over some rules that aren’t even factual. Sure, some things may not always go together, but that doesn’t mean you should take a risk and express yourself the best way you can. Avery Parker
