IMAGO-A S/S’14: Innovative and functional Stephanie AndersonAugust 9, 20143 viewsdesignFashionStyle0 Comments3 views See the visually curious and sleek designs of the IMAGO-A collection, pronounced ee-mah-go ah), when considering what type of handbag you want hanging from your arm that can either go with an outfit or make it stand out. Imago-A promises the latter with their collection, built upon geometric and sculptural shapes that are both innovative and functional. All their pieces are produced locally by luxury-leather craftsmen in New York City. Yegang Yoo launched Imago-A in 2011, inspired by psychologist Carl Jung’s theory that our individual characteristics are simply a collection of the images in our subconscious. In this spirit, she decided to develop a bold perspective on innovative, three-dimensional designs for womenswear and accessories, with its inventive mosaics and geometrical structure. The current collections for spring/summer 2014 are simplistic in design and glamorous in look, where the shape is modelled in rectangular and square shapes contrasting with the triangle handle cut out with minimal additions to it. Exempt from extra accessories, the bag itself stands out boldly colours of cream, white and black, suitable to use at work or provide a more stylish touch to an everyday outfit. The collection also winks back to its inventive use of geometric shaping, offering pentagon-designed shoulder bags, purses and clutches with carefully etched ridges on its tri-panels to complete the sharp finish. For something with more glitz and compactness, the collection also provides small, circular purses, finished with a zip that goes all the way round on shiny, metallic material. As well as recreating purses with an emphasis on shape and finish, excluding accessories, patterns and extra additions which mould its look as smooth in texture and high-end fashion in look, the handbags and purses are functional to use and suitable for whatever contents one would want to put inside. The No. 18 Triad handbag are adjustable, with a detachable shoulder strap , total zip closure and two interior pockets as well as double compartments at the unlined finished interior. Its look and practicality are the main and equalled focus of the designs. The No. 21 Hexa Wallet, the glowing addition to the collection with its holographic printed leather in platinum combo, provides top zip closure, two divided compartments and a coin pocket, both a compact and swanky accessory. On the website, out of the collection and looking on the other designs featured, bags and wallets are created from sculpted fine Italian lambskin and suede in bright and cheerful colours ranging from grassy green to sea blue and sable grey. Modelled carefully with intricate shape and edges, the No. 6 Prism Clutch has a spectacular finish. The lime green clutch bag with its blue-midnight interior with a back handle, hidden magnet closure and fully lined with fine grey suede stands out as both a head-turner and a must-buy.
