The new range takes influence from the meticulously handcrafted designs of the Samburu people. Chalk have animated the strong details found in their jewellery, fusing the past with the present. Within this collection we see bright, bold statement pieces formed from rich walnut wood sat alongside smaller more complex designs such as symmetrical circular bangles and repetitive geometric chokers. Unusual accents of colour perfectly compliment the range such as; turquoise, azure blue and bright orange. Each piece has it’s own identity and meaning adapted from the Kenyan dialect. Key pieces in the range being; ‘Ayah’ Hoops – Meaning ‘Star’ these oversized walnut wood earrings make a standout, statement piece for your jewellery collection. ‘Zuri’ Choker – Meaning ‘beautiful’ this choker is bursting with vibrancy, had crafted using walnut wood with accents of azure blue and tangerine acrylic. Nadira Bangle – Meaning ‘Rare’ Repetitive Circular shapes and geometric patterns come to play in this oversized bangle. Chalk is a London based design studio run by architect Malaika Carr who has a passion for beautifully crafted design, ranging from the huge scale of cities to bespoke jewellery. She splits her time practicing architecture and creating jewellery and loves the cross fertilisation between the two disciplines. Chalk create unusual, geometric jewellery combining walnut and acrylic materials, in a unique and inspiring way to devise dramatic, wearable pieces. Malaika founded her jewellery line whilst studying architecture at the university of Westminster. Here she made numerous intricate models using the laser cutting machine; she started to use the same process to make her own jewellery which later became the label. Since graduation she has continued to make her own pieces and the brand has developed to include their own e commerce shop as well as supplying a number of exciting stockists throughout the UK.
