LFW S/S’15: FAUSTINE STEINMETZ – handwoven and handmade Zoe SkerrettSeptember 12, 20145 viewsFashionLFWLondon Fashion WeekSS150 Comments5 views Made entirely in the UK, one of the first shows at London Fashion Week was Faustine Steinmetz showing off the new S/S’15 collection. A unique style of fashion, Faustine Steinmetz creates original pieces from everyday clothing such as an old pair of jeans. Whether they are weaved, knotted, dyed or embroidered, all the pieces are incredibly detailed with amazing texture. Faustine Steinmetz, named after the Parisian designer herself, set up the label in 2013 after having worked for the likes of Jeremy Scott and Henrik Vibskov. Her pieces are all made following her belief in craftsmanship over trend and her distinctive style shines through each one. The collection was displayed beautifully in a large hall with dim lighting only focusing on the eye-catching pieces. A frayed and distressed trouser suit, dressed down with white trainers and a simple white top to ensure all attention was focussed onto the extraordinary textured clothing. The blue to white mix gave a denim-like impression to the suit while looking fluffy and reworked. While not something you would consider wearing on a day-to-day basis, to look at and admire the work and thought that had gone into the creation of the piece is astounding. Paired on a pedestal with another trouser suit of strange texture, the pale blue-purple matching jacket and trousers had a ruched effect. Looking like scrunched paper, the model also wore her hair down and dishevelled with a natural face of make-up. The light picked up the texture and shape of the suit beautifully. Another suit with an array of dark purples, blacks and blues threads muddled together and pressed into a sturdy suit shape was another handmade piece on show. With contrasting white threads running through and burnt orange giving a pocket effect on the back, this suit is not one for everyday wear or the shy people among fashion.
