LFW S/S’15: Ming Pin Tien – Epilogue Collection Stephanie AndersonSeptember 14, 20142 viewsFashion0 Comments2 views Carrying on the study of love from previous seasons, Ming’s Spring/Summer 2015 collection is the last project – an epilogue – exploring personal views of love and relationships. Inspired by ‘Never Let Me Go’, a novel by Japanese-born British author Kazuo Ishiguro, Ming focuses his attentions on the feeling of companionship and understanding the limitations of time we have when we are in love. The elements of softness and sweetness have been highlighted through Epilogue and Ming has cleverly contrasted this with rougher constructions to suggest the bitterness of mortality. Throughout past collections, Ming strongly conjures juxtaposing elements, but this season shows an extension of this by using an array of techniques to portray the contradictory softness of love and the harshness of death. Elements of periodic hospital clothing integrates with Ming’s signature of clean tailored cuts and well-considered detailing. Silhouettes are slashed open and sheer fabric is layered to create unique shades. Raw-edged leather and cotton is also used with constructed pockets as it shows the contradicting elements of organic material with mechanical shapes. The concept is further developed with raw edges that are opposed with well-executed finishings, as well as using weaving and knotting techniques to show an organic form. In this collection, the subject draws on many different elements reflecting the complexity of human emotions, our conception of time, humanity fragility, and most important – the inevitability of life and death, the ultimate epilogue.
