London’s Flying Ibex Unveil New Single ‘Away From My Mind’ Tilly McCarthyJuly 11, 20162 viewsMusic0 Comments2 views Flying Ibex unleash their new single ‘Away From My Mind’, a trim slice of psych infused rhythmic indie-pop. From their beginnings as the house band for a commune of artists in south London, improvising to silent films and theatre pieces, Best Laid Plans’ new signing Flying Ibex have progressed through a sea of influences including African cassette tapes, tropical rhythms and experimentation with all manner of old analogue gear. The band emerged at the end of 2012 with their debut album ‘Travel in Dangerous Places’, centred around songwriter Barnaby Keen. Flying Ibex subsequently grew beyond the solo talents of Keen and now incorporates the skills of guitarist/vocalist Nathaniel Keen, drummer Dave De Rose, and Chilean bassman Colin Somervell. The band are ample in musicality and have an almost psychic rhythmic connection that comes from years of improvisation and exploration together on stages and in studios across the country. When not playing with Flying Ibex, Barnaby is a prolific collaborator, and is currently working on a bilingual album with Lisbon native Benjamim. The project that was conceived two years ago in London when the two musicians met on the same stage and traded knowledge of Brazilian music and favourite Dylan songs. Tilly McCarthy ‘Away from my mind’ is the first track to be taken from Flying Ibex’s forthcoming EP on Best Laid Plans.
