Lyon Apprentice Share New Single 'Alice'

Australian duo Lyon Apprentice have returned with their exhilarating new track, ‘Alice’ – a minimalist, dream-pop tribute to a longtime friend and the husband she lost. The single was recorded in the brothers’ new home studio in Manchester and mixed/produced by singer/guitarist Adam Lyons. ‘Alice’ sees Lyon Apprentice shuffling off their folk roots and embracing synth-driven, percussive production. ‘Alice’ marks Lyon Apprentice’s first release since their debut EP ‘Be Honest, Be Wild, Be Free’ (2014), produced by Mark Myers (The Middle East, Emma Louise) and mixed by Catherine Marks (Foals, Killers, Death Cab For Cutie), and signals the duo’s move toward independent, artist-led creation and promotion.

Adam states, “Alice was a 92 year-old patient of mine when I worked as an exercise physiologist. We became good friends. She often told stories of her late husband’s experiences in WWII as an RAF Lancaster bomber pilot and how he died of cancer five years after the war ended, leaving her with four children. Reflecting on her marriage, she once told me ‘when I feel this way, I learn to walk on’ and the line stuck with me. Perseverance is a quality I admire and my conversations with Alice always left me humbled, grateful and inspired.”

In early 2015, Lyon Apprentice moved from Gold Coast, Australia to Manchester, UK to concentrate efforts on music without the distractions of home. Brothers Adam and Nathan Lyons have continued expanding their label and management company, Canvas Sounds, in their new city with a current string of fresh releases from each of their signed acts. ‘Alice’ is part of this broader push by Canvas Sounds to encourage collaboration, support unsigned musicians and trial methods of songwriting and recording previously unexplored by its artists.
