Mariella Pilato: A Constructed State of Mind Stephanie AndersonNovember 13, 20137 viewsHandmadeJewellery0 Comments7 views Her jewellery can be described in one word and that is: bold. We are talking about the gifted Italian jewellery designer, Mariella Pilato. Her cultural heritage, love for art, fashion, architecture and her inspiration for indigenous cultures is not only notable but it shines through her whole collection. What characterises her jewellery design is that every piece makes a big statement, they are bold, and they stand out with a fashionable, elegant and sophisticated approach. Mariella was born and raised in Sorrento, southern Italy, in a land rich in history and culture. A land of great myths of the Mediterranean Sea linked to the legends of the Homeric heroes. This land of mythic creatures and mermaids has had a profound influence on Mariella’s imagination and creativity. After she graduated with her degree in stage design from the Naples Academy of Fine Arts she moved to another inspiring and magical place, rich in history, myths and ancient arts, the Hindu island of Bali in the Indonesian archipelago. When moving to Bali, Mariella discovered gemstones and from there she started her own bench work of jewellery, self-taught in the art of silversmithing combined with her hands-on experiment she realised how she could turn her ideas into jewellery. Mariella is now based in Bali and it is from here she organises her work, where she creates, fabricates and distributes her exquisite hand-made pieces to the rest of the world. Her latest collection features pieces inspired by architectural design and shapes with influences from the world of theatre, constructed with silver elements. The crystals combined with the silver elements creates an ice-cold look with a sharp cutting bright and bold visual effect. Every piece of her jewellery is unique, hand-made and the stones are all different from one another in size and carvings.
