Mariella Pilato: Patterns of Crystallisation collection Stephanie AndersonJanuary 25, 20146 viewsdesignHandmadeJewelleryStyle0 Comments6 views Mariella Pilato is an extraordinarily talented Italian artist now based in Bali, Indonesia. Pilato creates jewellery using semiprecious metals and precious stones. She studied at the Accademia di Belle Arti in Naples and Florence having been born and raised in Sorrento. Her latest collection, ‘Patterns of Crystallisation’ follows similar themes to her prior collection, ‘A Constructed State of Mind’, featuring very angular shapes, rigid outlines and bold statements. The inspiration for her latest collection comes from geometry, angles, and symmetry… essentially, finding beauty in logic and construction. There is an amount of conflict between the rigid pattern of the metalwork and the potential for random reflection from the focal crystals that are a key feature in most of the pieces. Her work is an evolutionary process from a childhood interest in the theatre and in costume jewellery to an adulthood passion for architecture. The creative process involves soldering precise elements together, such as rock crystal and agate drusy. Each piece is sterling silver, one of a kind and handmade in Bali. Aside from the strong visual effect of her work, these pieces are perfect for dressing up your favourite day outfit, making it work with the glitz and glamour of eveningwear. they are all so striking, it would be easy to take the classic jeans blazer combo and dress them up with a necklace, bracelet and heels. Essentially, we here at The Clothes Maiden think that each piece is an outfit in itself, making Pilato’s work is a must-have for every wardrobe.
