Mary Katrantzou x adidas: sports luxe collection Sophie PrescottOctober 30, 2014119 viewsDesigner CollaborationFashionsportswear0 Comments119 views Following an impressive history of designer collaborations including Stella McCartney, Jeremy Scott, Rick Owens and, most recently, Pharrell, Adidas is finally about to release its hotly-anticipated capsule collection from Mary Katrantzou. Images have been released of some of the pieces that you can expect to see from the range released in November, which consist of striking combinations of classic sports apparel with Katrantzou’s unique eye for detail. Using sporty neoprene with mesh and zip details, the athletic-inspired pieces are emblazoned with what Katrantzou is known for best: print. Her love for all things kaleidoscopic translates seamlessly to the range of sweaters, skirts and dresses, which mixes up bold florals and sporty prints alongside a playful use of the brand’s own logo. On her website, Katrantzou discusses bringing the brand’s character together with her own aesthetics: “[w]e both have a very distinctive brand identity, so it was important to create a line representative of both. When we started brainstorming it was clear that we had a similar customer in mind – it’s someone who enjoys life and has fun with clothes.” That’s not all. As part of the collaboration, Mary Katrantzou has also worked on a line of footwear for the brand, which is equally as eye-catching in design. Mixing a range of colours and textures (studs included) these trainers will have fashionistas sprinting to stores next month when the collection launches. “I think print and colour communicate perfectly to a wider audience” she writes, “I wanted to be more democratic because what I do everyday is niche and luxury, so it’s great to translate my work into a product more people can enjoy!” This isn’t the first time Katrantzou has made her unique designs more accessible to the public; back in 2010 her collaboration with Topshop brought high fashion to the high street and sold out in a matter of weeks. Her designs for Longchamp in 2012 boasted a similar success, so there is no doubt we can expect a high demand for her Adidas collection. With the ‘sports luxe’ trend still very much in style, these statement pieces are well worth investing in, so be quick – the range will be available in store and online from November 15th.
