London based artist Trinity Higgs has showcased the new TrinityTristan designs for 2014, designs almost wholly inspired by her recent travels around mystical Turkey. Indeed it is clear to see her love of the natural world in the designs and in specific those attributes that make Turkey so beautiful; the deep lagoons, crystal clear waters and luscious greenery are reflected in dazzling turquoises and deep emeralds. A nod to the countries’ heat is shown in burnt colours, combined with a unique Mediterranean/cave painting style.

Each design is due to be hand printed via a process that Trinity describes as ‘simple, but time-consuming’. From the idea conception and digital enhancement through to the painting with animal and vegetable dyes, the process is entirely personal with Trinity allowing the designs to organically grow and adapt with each section of the silk. The freedom that Trinity gives the designs as they are being printed helps to create the illusion that they ‘appeared’ rather than were deliberately painted – another beautiful example of bringing the untamed reality of nature into the designs.

The brand was founded in the heart of Falmouth in 2010, where it was easy for Trinity to immerse herself and practice the adaptation of natural forms into a functional pattern. Since inception, the brand designs have been printed onto various garments, including scarves, handkerchiefs and swimwear. Previous pieces have also included a strong use of detailing with both embroidery and beadwork and have been available as pieces to be worn or alternatively hung as contemporary artwork.
