Review: WECANDANCE Festival 2016 in Belgium The Editorial TeamAugust 19, 201661 viewsMusicTravel0 Comments61 views Recently we had the pleasure to attend the almighty electronic music festival, WECANDANCE, that took place on the 13th and 14th August, located at Zeebrugge Beach in sunny Belgium. WECANDANCE stands for quality underground music and that’s exactly what we got. Divided over four spectacular stages, the festival provided us with a supreme line-up, with a mix of local up and coming DJ’s as well as international headliners such as; Jamie Jones, Pachanga Boys and Sam Tiba. Each year the festival takes on a new theme, and for its fourth year, the focus was outer space. Each tent was transformed into futuristic works of art, where giant planet installations hung from the ceiling, and giant lightbulbs flashed above tents for an eerie intergalactic experience. The festival go-ers didn’t disappoint either and rocked up to the festival each day in galactic inspired head to toe outfits. Looks consisted of metallic skater skirts, bombers loaded with shiny sequins, silver pool sliders and 90’s inspired hair styles from buns to braids. If you hadn’t already decided on a space themed look then you had to look no further than the Experience tent, where a Redken beauty team were at hand creating cosmic inspired up-dos, completely free of charge! There was also a variety of galaxy-inspired clothing at hand, available to buy from fashion designers who collaborated with the festival. Just outside of the Experience tent which stood in the centre of the festival was the MAC squad, introducing the brand new Star Trek make-up collection. The professional make-up artists couldn’t wait to get to work on festival go-ers. We had golden glitter on our eyes, metallic glittered bronzer and wore vibrant deep coloured lipgloss. Once the make-over was done, we felt like we were ready to join the cast of a sci-fi movie! All who attended didn’t go hungry either, the festival had its very own pop-up world food market and you had plenty to choose from. From wagyu burgers (which were unreal!) to delicious pulled pork sandwiches, loaded with fresh salad. There was something for every foodie to enjoy. During the day the festival music was more chilled out, with laid back vibes, and you could lay on the beach right next to the different stages whilst getting a killer tan and drink refreshing cocktails all at the same time. The H&M stage was a huge hit, playing old school hip-hop and R&B tracks and our favourite acts were two female DJs from Ghent, Catwar and Lilihell and another Belgian local, Laura De Greef who was all about laid back house. Once night came, the beach turned into the ultimate place to be. Strobe lights lit the sky with the most incredible colours, and every stage, dome and art installation lit up the beach. The night ended at 12am, with spectacular fireworks on both nights to celebrate the end of a fabulous party. The campsite was only a five-minute walk from the festival, the perfect location. You had the option to bring your own tent, sleep in a brand new rent-a-tent or kip in a luxurious mini cabin. There was also a pop-up bar on site as well as a quirky food stall serving hot drinks and bakery delights, from bacon sandwiches to yummy fresh brioche rolls. The weather was scorching hot, fabulous beach and festival weather on both days. The best thing about the festival was that it was actually on the beach, you didn’t have to walk miles to get to the next stage. Nor did you have to queue ages if you wanted a beer or a soft drink. Most people dread festival toilets, but we can tell you right now, there was nothing at all to worry about. The cubicles were frequently cleaned and not a drop of litter could be seen on the ground as there was always someone at hand picking up anything that was dropped. This festival was by far, one of the best festivals we have ever attended, the DJs were unbelievable, people were friendly, the food was of extra high-quality and it had the most amazing atmosphere. We definitely recommend following this festival on social media and keeping an eye out for their next festival which will take place again in 2017. The Editorial Team The music festival welcomed a record number of festival goers with 15,000 guests in attendance on each day. Will you be part of it next year? Click here to visit WECANDANCE online.
