Rihanna Channels Japanese Street-Punk for FENTY for Stance Bailey MossOctober 22, 20168 viewsFashion0 Comments8 views Rihanna’s design direction for her fourth collaboration with Stance keeps with the ‘tradition’ of doing the unexpected as she explores Japanese Street-Punk through her distinctive lens. For her Autumn collection, Rihanna layers in her own special touches and details to create something undeniably fresh for the 9-piece collection of socks and hosiery. The collection is brought to life through Contemporary Illustrator, Bijou Karman, who turned the Contributing Creative Director’s designs into illustrated works of art. The collection is evocative of juxtaposing the beauty and elegance of Japanese culture with the modern street wear and punk movement. From intricate Lotus florals, stunning patterns inspired by vintage Kimono’s, and traditional calligraphy, mashed up with re-imagined plaids and Japanese writings that speak to Rihanna’s ‘Bad Gal’ persona, the collection is as inventive and bold as she is. The striking colour palette plays up burgundy, navy, coral, soft sherbet and minted green hues for a refreshing autumn aesthetic.LA-based Contemporary Illustrator, Bijou Karman, was selected by Rihanna to turn the designs into a full creative campaign to help launch the collection. Bijou’s vintage inspired aesthetic mixed with her modern flare was a perfect match for the project. Her unique artistic process of layering sketches and painting helped bring Rihanna’s vision to life in a new and interesting way.
