Rosita Bonita: Purveyors of fine and fancy goods Stephanie AndersonApril 29, 20142 viewsHandmadeJewellery0 Comments2 views Rosita Bonita is a jewellery brand specialising in decorative, printed leather pieces that are meticulously handcrafted in its east London studio. With a background in illustration and invaluable experience in costume design, model making and set installation, the firm’s principle, Bonita, combines these disciplines to create wearable pieces that outlast temporary trends. Her experimental approach to materials utilises screen-printed and foil-embossed patterns, applied to fine leathers, to create unique items of jewellery. Bonita draws inspiration from several spheres: a glamorous fantasy of past times and faraway lands, encompassing icons of folklore, myths and legends, as well as carnivals, magic shows and the golden era of Hollywood. When merged, these fields create enchanting, nostalgic collectables. In contrast to the disposable fast fashion of today, the Rosita Bonita collections are permanently available to order from the brand’s archive. New collections and expansions to existing ones are launched seasonally, with bespoke enquiries always welcome. Spring/summer 2014 sees an expansion of the popular Siren collection – oceanic necklaces and earrings, produced in soft, pastel leathers, embossed with shining gold and dazzling holographic prints. These shimmering, exciting pieces are inspired by ancient obsessions with mythological fish-tailed beasts and the mermaid carnival exhibits and aqua shows of early 20thcentury seaside amusements. A seashore colour palette of aqua blue, wave-washed coral red and brilliant white adorns the latest styles. Two newly designed shell shapes – the shiny golden mule and the twister – have been cut from smooth pastel leathers, embossed with metallic foil. These are incorporated into statement Beachcomber and She Sells Seashells necklaces, with the latter also featuring tiny, interspersed, golden shell charms. This updated collection also makes classic Siren pieces available in fresh nautical hues, alongside the original sea foam green, lilac and coral pink colour palette – an endless ocean of choice!
