Simon Ekrelius S/S’16 Collection: Magdalena Edith ZamoraOctober 7, 2015266 viewsFashion0 Comments266 views Simon Ekrelius is an award winning Swedish designer of women’s ready-to-wear, based in London. His clothing includes lines, dimensions and contrasting texture. Materials and sewing are of high quality, with all of the manufacturing based in the UK. Recurring themes are ‘futuristic bohemian’ and ‘architecturally inspired’. Colours used are white, black and grey shades with a colour accent. Fabrics are predominantly natural – silk, wool, cotton and viscose, with some vinyl and polyester. He uses his own designed digital silk prints and custom pleating. For spring/summer 2016, Simon has created a women’s collection in honour and memory of his mentor Magdelena Olsson, who at an early stage of their friendship insisted on showing Simon the work of artist Alexander Rodchenko. This collection is inspired by Rodchenko’s socially engaged photography, by the strong lines in his images and the sterile yet warm compositions often appearing in his work. Simon’s take on this is subtle, yet effective. It touches on the feelings of futurism by creating a strong silhouette, while the feminine side is there using the colour red with industrial grey, white and black shades. The collection includes accents of plastic and sheer surfaces, in keeping with the Ekrelius signature. Edith Zamora Click here to view more from Simon Ekrelius.
