skatanist - the clothes maiden

Italian-born London-based sisters Veronica and Roberta Venturini are this week rallying the support of fashion fans, roller skaters, roller derby players and skateboarders as they campaign for votes to get them funding for their huge plans for their grass roots London fashion skate brand, Skatanist – with a pop-up Skater’s Paradise to hit the capital.

skatanist - the clothes maiden

Established in 2012, the Skatanist brand was created by fashion blogger Veronica and her sister, celebrated stylist Roberta. Early products included customised shorts, roller skate carry straps and quirky logo T-shirts aimed at the emerging roller derby scene skaters and their fans, with slogans such as “blood is my lipstick“ and ”roller girls do it better“. The ladies were part of the very first Team Italy in last year’s Roller Derby World Cup (under the roller derby names Ace Venturini and Sikki Sixx), both skate for the London Rockin’ Rollers and are strong supporters of the UK arm of the Chicks in Bowls scene, a phenomenon of quad roller skaters taking to skate parks across the globe.

Skatanist clothing has been made available at roller derby bouts across the country, via their hugely successful Etsy store, stocked in skate and fashion stores in Holland, Italy and Australia, has a growing social following, features support and photoshoots with star skaters from across the globe (including Team USA star jammer Suzy Hotrod) in their monthly showcases and has been included in fashion shoots by the likes of Elle Italia and Italian fashion bible Gioia. But the Venturini’s do not want to stop there. They’re dreaming big for Skatanist with their London Skater’s Paradise plans and with support via online votes, hope to gain the funding to make it happen.

Skatanist want to continue to develop their clothing collections, designed to fit healthy, athletic skater girls and make them feel beautiful without having to give up being fashionable. They are asking for support via Richard Branson’s Pitch to Rich platform to help them to reach new customers and embark on exciting marketing initiatives – including plans to open a pop up Skatanist Skater’s Paradise in London, a store and skate park for all women to have the chance to learn an extreme sport in a safe environment with professionals and spread the love of their brand.
