Recently we discovered something very special on the other side of the internet, let us introduce an independent illustration and print design house to you, called The Aviary – who specialise in delicately drawn and intricately made gift items for you as well as your home. The designer-maker, pen-wielder and self-confessed bower bird Victoria Foster is the creative behind The Aviary and The Clothes Maiden can’t get enough of it.

Finding beauty in the everyday, she fills her ‘aviary’ with beautiful illustrated items predominately inspired by nature and found objects. ‘Drawing’ on skin is a favourite pastime of Victoria’s so you’re bound to find lots of new body art being added regularly to the ever-growing range of truly unique temporary tattoos.  All items are handmade in Britain utilising vintage, recycled and organic materials wherever possible so you can happily indulge in guilt-free fun.

What caught our attention is Victoria’s beautiful handmade tattoos. All the fun of real tattoos with none of the pain or long-term commitment. Now you can adorn yourself with these beautiful moths and delicate geometric shapes.  Taken from Victoria’s original illustrations, each ‘tattoo’ comes pre-cut and ready to wear with full application instructions included. The delightful packaging is made from recycled card and glassine which makes them a perfect present too! The tattoo designs are printed on professional-grade material as used on film sets. They will last up to five days depending on where you place them. Areas such as elbows and wrists may wear more quickly as they twist and turn.

In the online webstore you will also discover some beautiful jewels, featuring Victoria’s original drawings translated into solid metal.  Handmade in The Aviary studio at her jewellery bench, each piece is expertly sawn from brass, then filed, glazed and polished before being suspended from small yet sturdy trace chain, which closes with a lobster clasp and her signature diamond shape charm.  These necklaces are perfect for layering up together, wearing alone or giving as friendship jewellery to your best nature girls!
