The Philadelphia Collection 2014: A series of fashion and style events The Editorial TeamSeptember 25, 20141 viewsEditorialFashionlifestyle0 Comments1 views You’ve heard of London Fashion Week, New York Fashion Week – but the next fashionable event that you should be in the know about is the Philadelphia Collections. The Philadelphia Collection is a series of fashion and style events that take place over the course of one week throughout the city of Brotherly Love. The fashion series is designed to promote the city and all aspects of its fashion economy, including its impressive “collection” of retailers, boutiques, stylists, designers, modelling agencies, design schools and fashion/design students. The events are independently produced by local producers and retailers and include fashion shows, trunk shows, lectures, expert panel discussions and so much more. The Philadelphia Collection featured more than 45 style events throughout the city from Wednesday, September 17th through Wednesday, September 24th and we were lucky enough to attend and experience the likes of the Macy’s Fall Fashion Show to the night of the launch and this included meeting Mayor Michael A. Nutter. Launched in September, 2010, by the City of Philadelphia, Centre City District and the Philadelphia Retail Marketing Alliance–an organisation whose missions is to enhance the quality and quantity of the city’s retail offerings–The Philadelphia Collection serves as a vehicle to promote the city and all aspects of its robust fashion community. The exclusive event created a platform for excellent Autumn shopping and put a national spotlight on the city’s retail scene. Since the series’ inception, Philadelphia has been named one of the “10 Best Cities for Shopping” by CNBC, the “25 Best Cities for Shopping” by LuckyMag.com, “The 10 Shopping Cities on the Rise” by Sherman’s Travel and “The Best Shopping Cities in the U.S” by Forbes.com. While shopping is in season 365 days a year, for seven days in September during The Philadelphia Collection, the Autumn season’s most coveted fashions were showcased at both large-scale “signature” runway shows and style soirees, as well as intimate trunk shows and showcases. Consumers attended their favourite annual fashion events like Phashion Phest, as well as new events with international flair, including Uomo Moderno’s Philadelphia Fashion Show from Italy. Other signature events included Joan Shepp’s Style Presentation, Nicole Miller’s XIX Most Fashionable Women in Philadelphia, Rittenhouse Row Fall Fashion Crawl, StylePOP Pop-Up Market, South Street Headhouse District’s Fashion under The Shambles, and Philadelphia Fashion Incubator Shopping Soiree at The Market and Shops at Comcast Centre.
