Each season, we always seem to see new trends come to the forefront of the fashion world. Though these normally chop & change, it appears that the sports luxe trend is one that is here to stay. It is a style which combines the sporty with the stylish, and has soared in popularity. Traditionally, active wear would be associated with youths and lounging around, but is a widely accepted and ever growing trend to start wearing sportswear with smarter items of clothing – creating a ‘sports luxe’ outfit. We’ve broken the style down into its each separate element so that you can make the style your own.

T-Shirts

When it comes to choosing a t-shirt to wear, the most important factor is certainly the colour. When going for a look which is more casual, it can be a good idea to go for brighter colours, but when going for a smarter vibe – try use more neutral colours such as black, white, grey, khaki or nude. When it comes to choosing between long or short sleeves, long sleeved t-shirts can be considered slightly more stylish, whereas short sleeved t-shirts are more relaxed. But the great thing about sports luxe, is that it is a flexible style. Meaning that whether you go with a long sleeve or short sleeved, you will still be able to wear them as part of a sports luxe outfit!

Hoodies

The first thing that comes to mind when picturing a hoodie is often a piece of urban clothing which is baggy, relaxed, and perfect for lounging around in. However, when it comes to sports luxe the hoodies worn are generally smarter, ‘luxe’ style hoodies that fit the bill perfectly. These are perfect as they go perfectly under any type of jacket, whether it is leather, bomber or denim. Or you can ditch the jacket all together and wear a zip-up hoodie with a t-shirt underneath.

Joggers

Similarly to the hoodie, joggers are an item of clothing which is usually associated with being baggy and used to lounge around your home. However, they are now made in so many different styles that they can be worn for a wide range of different occasions. When going for a sports luxe outfit, you will want to stay away from the traditional baggy style with a cuffed ankle, and instead opt for joggers designed in a skinnier, tailored fit to give off a smarter yet effortless feel. The key with them is to go with neutral colours, so a good idea can be to go with grey joggers and let your clothing on the upper half of your body take most of the attention.

Jackets

Arguably the best thing about this style is how versatile it is, and this is especially true for your jacket choice. Even though the jacket can be versatile, it’s worth remembering that this will be the focal point of your outfit – so if you want to lean towards the smarter end of the scale, then opt for a tailored blazer. Alternatively, to tone it down a little go for a bomber or track jacket, which will still stick with the sports luxe theme.

Trainers

As always, your footwear is essentially the finishing touch to your outfit. When it comes to choosing your trainers, they should be sporty, but still have a luxury aspect to them. There a wide range of brands which have now designed running trainers so that they can be worn as part of a sports luxe outfit – but it can be difficult to strike the balance between being smart and looking like gymwear. To ensure that you can stay on the stylish end of the sports luxe scale, it can be a good idea to go for canvas trainers or plimsolls, as these will combine the comfortable with the stylish, and complete your look perfectly.
