Travelling is now more affordable than ever, giving holidaymakers the opportunity to travel to far flung destinations. But with locations such as Bali, Thailand and Dubai, once thought of as exotic now bustling with tourists, travellers are keen to find new and undiscovered places to visit.

Travel Insurance Explained has listed six must-visit totally Instagram worthy destinations that will have you counting down the days until your next trip.

Solomon Islands

With their white sandy beaches, clear blue seas and fabulous flora and fauna, the Solomon Islands are a truly tropical paradise. The islands offer an unspoilt playground for adventurous and laid-back travellers alike and people can experience the rich heritage which includes ancient ceremonial locations such as the skull shrines. The Solomon Islands are home to some species of birds and fish that can’t be found anywhere else in the world – making them a must-see destination for all travellers looking for a relaxing holiday bursting with culture.

Travel advice: the Solomon Islands are part of the ‘Ring of Fire’ so earthquakes, volcanic activity and tsunamis can occur. It is important to monitor weather updates as tropical cyclone season runs from November to May.

New Caledonia

The lagoons of New Caledonia are made up of six marine clusters, and are one of three of the most extensive coral reef ecosystems in the world, becoming a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2008. In New Caledonia tourists can explore the extraordinary history of the archipelago by visiting the colonial Chateau Hagen, the charming Célières House and iconic architectural marvel, the Tjibaou Cultural Centre.

Georgia

This is one of the most ecologically diverse countries on earth, with climates ranging from subtropical to high alpine and to semi-desert depending on the region, which gives travellers the unique opportunity to go skiing or snowboarding, sunbathing and hiking all during one holiday. But Georgia is more than a mix of weather, the ancient beginnings of this civilisation can be tracked back almost two million years, and visitors can visit the countries three UNESCO World Heritage sites, immerse themselves in enchanting Georgian Folk music and ancient archaeology that can’t be viewed anywhere else in the world.

Uzbekistan

With people scrambling to visit East Asia, Central Asia has been forgotten in the hubbub, but Uzbekistan is an amazing country filled with classical cities of a bygone age, breath-taking architecture and charming bazaars. Uzbekistan is also home to three of the main cities, Khiva, Bukhara and Samarkand, on the route of the Silk Road that runs between China and Turkey.

Undiscovered Malta and Gozo

With around 500,000 Brits travelling to Malta every year, this destination is definitely an up and coming spot. Malta offers incredible culture and heritage for adventure travellers, a great nightlife and lively clubbing scene for party travellers and a safe and beautiful environment for fantastic family fun, making it a great holiday for all. Whilst a smaller and quieter destination, Gozo has beautiful unspoilt beaches coupled with lots of ancient architecture for those looking to immerse themselves in the long history of the island.

Rural Brazil

The world’s largest tropical rainforest, the Amazon, is located in Brazil, which coincidentally is home to a third of the world’s rainforests, giving travellers the opportunity to explore the lush expanse of leafy scenery and see the Araguaia River that flows through it. The culture in Brazil rivals no other, and with Rio Carnival, which has been labelled the ‘biggest party on earth’, people from all walks of life travel from far and wide to see performers adorned in enormous feathers and an abundance of gems dance to samba surrounded by extraordinary giant floats. Although the next carnival is a long way away, running from 2nd to 9th March 2021, it will be well worth the wait.
