With huge scale events like the recent London Fashion Week reminding us how fickle today’s trends can be, it’s easy to get overwhelmed when picking outfits for new seasons.  Are scrunchies making a comeback? Is my turtleneck ideal for chillier weather or should it remain safely in the 90s? Sometimes we all need to stop and get off the soaring roller coaster that is today’s fashion. Whilst it’s great to try out a new trend and see how it fits our traditional style, body shapes and more, there is also a lot to be said for maintaining a “timeless classic” look. We’re talking about wardrobe staples which will battle their way through the changing seasons and complement any colour or style you’re trying to perfect.

Go Organic

The best way to start with this, according to leather master Garvan de Bruir, is to choose a timeless material. The designer, who has just launched a new range of wallets, bags and stationery accessories at Waremakers, says: “Animals hides and wood are among man’s oldest materials – they are naturally renewable, as well as farmed.” So whether it’s a satchel for the office or a sturdy pair of shoes, natural, organic materials are always best. But what about wardrobe staples that will keep you looking stylish whatever the season?

Best Foot Forward

Start from the bottom up – one piece of footwear that will never let you down is a good pair of walking boots. These are great for both men and women and have transitioned through the ages from mods wearing Dr Martens in the 60s to stars like Drew Barrymore wearing them today, and are comfortable and versatile for all seasons.

Working upwards and bringing the focus back to that all important material, a reliable pair of jeans will never let you down. Skinny, baggy, boyfriend, apple-bottomed – there are a million designs to choose from but a well-cut pair and strong denim base will help you keep your cool in a crisis. There’s a whole lot more to the jeans-making process than you might think too – for example, Mr Levi Strauss patented the “rivets” back in 1873 to reduce wear and tear, so you can be sure they’ll last forever!

Get Shirty

Finally, this timeless classic is great because there are so many variations for men and women, be they informal cowgirl checked shirts or silky pussy bow tops for the office. Whatever the occasion, you cannot go wrong with a simple, button-up shirt – just ensure you layer it up with a jacket and accessories this autumn.
