Top 10 Hair Trends We Wish We Could Forget Alicia JoyMarch 15, 20179 viewsBeauty0 Comments9 views Online hair and beauty retailer Hairtrade.com has dug deep into the archives and discovered which past looks are really worth forgetting. From thinking you looked amazing with your rainbow clip-in streaks to going through a whole tub of gel to create huge (and possibly dangerous) spikes, these are just some of the hair and beauty looks that need to be wiped out from memory. Here are the worst hair trends of all time: Getting Crimped One for the 90s girls out there – our crimpers were our favourite gadgets of our childhood. How cool we thought we looked with our crinkled Afros, if only we knew the damage it was doing to our split ends. The Bowl Cut Both men and women took inspiration from the humble cooking bowl not too long ago and there’s even talk of it making a comeback. The simple style is created by rocking a straight fringe at the front with the rest of the hair the same length all the way around. I think we’ll be sticking to our layers. Rainbow Colour Clip-Ins Celebrities including Paris Hilton, Nicole Richie and Christina Aguilera were big fans of the colourful style a couple of decades ago and of course, we just had to copy. No matter the colour, it was clipped into our hair. The more streaks the better. Serious Spikes Also known as ‘liberty spikes’, this hairstyle was popular in 90s punk culture and took a lot of work to achieve. To create this style, one would need two hours of hard graft and several tubs or bottles of hair gel. Think huge clumps of hair standing up on end – all over the head. It must have been a hazard. Mullet Take a look back through your family photos and one member will have gone through the mullet stage. First invented in the early 70s by David Bowie, Rod Stewart and Paul McCartney, it was sported by both men and women. Think short on top and front, long at the back. Curtains We have the likes of The Backstreet Boys and N-Sync to thank for this one. It wasn’t a school playground unless one boy sported curtains – similar to the bowl cut, but with a standout centre parting. Poodle Perm This hairstyle dominated the 80s for women with icons such as Kylie Minogue, Madonna and Cher all turning to the curl. The bigger the better, it wasn’t easy to go from straight to poodle. The process was done using tight heated rollers and a LOT of hairspray. The ‘Mun’ As already mentioned, we couldn’t have put together this list without throwing in one modern mistake. Welcome the ‘Mun’ – you’re guaranteed to even see one today. You can’t miss it, look out for shaven back and sides and long and floppy on top, all fixed into a small man bun with a hair band.
