Velvet Ruins S/S’15: Redux Bailey MossMarch 8, 20153 viewsFashionJewellerySS150 Comments3 views Velvet Ruins is Paige Vaught’s personal braindarling, and a one woman show. The designer hand fabricates each piece, utilising traditional metal-smithing techniques within a home studio located in Indianapolis, Indiana. The philosophy behind Paige’s brand is based on studies of psychology, sociology, and her own personal interpretation of the existential struggle we all endure throughout or at poignant moments in our lives. The biggest influences are postmodernism, and lowbrow art. This shows in her work through a unique approach to art jewellery. Evoking symbolism that has endured throughout culture, exploring a metaphysical relationship to the universe, and what that connection means in a postmodern era where so much meaning has been stripped. Paige launched the first collection, Blood & Fire, in the autumn of 2014. This collection is an exploration of the disintegration and regeneration that has occurred throughout human history, and throughout individual lives. The second collection, Redux, is inspired by design throughout the Middle Ages, specifically architectural structure and detail, and will be released this April. This collection is based on the cyclical nature of culture, and how reinterpretation can be a form of giving purpose to the present through reference to eras long gone.
