Wax in the City: A whole new waxing experience Ilana LeonardMarch 20, 201545 viewsBeautyreview0 Comments45 views Who wants to book three weeks ahead for a wax? Stuff happens and plans change. Our first visit to Wax in the City on the King’s Road, Chelsea, left us enlightened. Walk-in waxing clinics are de-rigueur in New York and popular in Europe but for some reason us Londoners seem to be a bit slow on the uptake. Wax in the City is the first and the only walk-in waxing studio in London. First off, Wax in the City is not a beauty salon. Less about pampering, this waxing mega-suite is about getting the job done in the most efficient way possible and to the highest of standards. The combination of a walk-in only policy, German precision and bespoke branded natural products combine to create a whole new take on waxing. Nestled just a few doors down from Bluebird Chelsea on the Kings Road, the studio at 370 King’s Road couldn’t be located in a more delightful spot. German precision and extreme cleanliness. There are no scented candles or frilly bits here. The interior is minimalist, modern and highly functional and extremely clean. Downstairs, the scale of the waxing suite is impressive as you are guided through a maze-like setup of brightly-lit corridors lined with individual curtained off waxing cabins. Wax in the City use only their own brand of soft, gooey natural beeswax on all body parts – blended with a bit of glycerine and nothing else, it is kind to the skin and doesn’t harden when applied. There is no synthetic wax and no strip waxing. The result: this was the least painful wax we have ever had! This is because the heat from the wax opens the pores so hair comes out easily and the beeswax sticks to the hairs only – not the skin! A fresh cup of melted beeswax is brought in for each client eradicating the possibility of cross-contamination and making Wax in the City more hygienic than other salons, which mix wax in a one-for-all heated pot. All Wax in the City therapists are sent on an intense two week waxing boot-camp in Berlin before they can start work. Super-convenient, Wax in the City have a strict walk-ins only policy, so you can simply pop in when you’re in the area. Great for squeezing in a lunch-break or after-work wax. There are 12 waxing pods and five members of staff on site at all times, so the longest you will ever have to wait is fifteen minutes. Ilana Leonard Wax in the City is open Monday-Friday from 10am until 8pm, Saturday 10am-6pm and Sunday 10am-5pm. Prices range from £8-£60 for men and women.
